16. Tourism Pressure    

Although there are no figures for the number of visitors to the municipality, the area is not under pressure from tourism.

 

     
     
17. Leisure & Recreation    
The municipality of Torres Vedras has a large network of leisure infrastructures, cultural and recreational associations, which regularly develop and offer new activities. The best showcase for local tradition is, without doubt, the Torres Vedras Carnival, one of the oldest and most genuine of the Carnivals in Portugal.
 
     
     
18. Business Involvement    

In the municipality of Torres Vedras, there is an involvement of the local business community in efforts aimed towards sustainable development. The local government has created a dedicated office and hotline to assist companies. This is an efficient tool for companies and future investors in the municipality of Torres Vedras.

 
As regards the requalification of the coast, the local Council holds regular meetings with those businesses which have seaside amenity concessions, the ARH - Administração de Região Hidrográfica do Tejo and the Project Office for the municipality.
 
     
19. Community Participation    

The local government relies on the participation of the community in decision-making, allowing for the involvement of diverse stakeholders. This participation is achieved using various manners and modes: online (there is an online forum on the Torres Vedras Council website); promotion of conference and debate cycles on a variety of themes; creation of a bank of local volunteers; development of Local Agenda 21; adherence to the Aalborg Commitments; establishing partnerships with organizations and associations.

   
 
     
20. Health & Safety    

There are several entities in the municipality of Torres Vedras, whose work it is to guarantee safety in the municipality. These include: the Torres Vedras division of the police force (PSP); the Torres Vedras section of the national police force (GNR), which includes the EPNA (the Nature and Environment Protection Team) and the GNR post in Santa Cruz (beach); the Maritime Police (Peniche and Cascais Port Authorities); the Traffic Brigade, Catefica Division; and the Torres Vedras Fire Service.



 
During the summer season, which is between 15th June and 15th September in the municipality of Torres Vedras, the beaches are patrolled by lifeguards, who guarantee the safety of visitors and offer first aid. Apart from this, the Blue Flag award is attributed to beaches which fulfil a set of safety criteria.
