In the municipality of Katwijk, festivals are arranged at a regular basis by the many associations, but also by the municipality itself. Especially during the summer months, there is a lot to do in the sea-resort Katwijk, but also in Rijnsburg and Valkenburg.

All campings in Katwijk offer environment-friendy camping. The beach pavillion VOF het Strand also has the Green Key eco-label.

The self-organising capacity of the municipality of Katwijk is large. All three villages have their own associations and parties and form strong communities. Participation by inhabitants is one of the spearheads of the policy programme of the municipality: “To really have the residents in the centre, means stimulating participation by the residents. Active participation of the residents in policy development and implementation is important.” Among residents are not only the inhabitants but also employers, institutions and promoters of interest.

The way in which residents are involved varies for each project. A large number of gatherings are arranged in the municipality in which residents are informed and have the possibility to give their vision on projects. Also, researches and surveys are carried on a regular basis out to measure public opinion. Residents are asked to actively think along in opinion groups. The municipality also has regular consultations with interest groups and social organisations.  

Safety on the beach, at sea and in the dunes is very important for the municipality of Katwijk. Therefore, there are various organisations active to ensure the safety of the visitors.

Also, the municipality places information signs on the safety of the beach. Parents can give their children a wristlet with their name and telephone number.
