| 6. Blue Flags & Beaches |
|
|
On the side of the North Sea lies a 22 km clean and white beach.
The beaches are divided by the municipality into three categories:
Family and sports beach, family beach with surfing and a beach for
extreme sports. The town of Goedereede feels very strongly about safety.
Basically it is allowed to start swimming from all beaches. It is
recommended however to start swimming from the guarded beaches. These
beaches are indicated by blue signs. At the local Tourist Information
Office more information about this is available. The rescue-team supervises
two beaches and has a first-aid station on each beach. The beaches
of Ouddorp and the beaches near the Brouwersdam are visited most.

| 7. Water Management |
|
|
Goedereede has its own drinking-water supply. In the dunes near Ouddorp
there are water basins and a drinking-water installation is situated.
The exploitation is done by Delta Nuts, which is part of Evides. In
the neighbourhood of Stellendam water is taken in from the Haringvliet.
This water is pre-purified at the production location of Ouddorp,
after which in Ouddorp it is infiltrated into the dunes. After 60
to 90 days stay the water is pumped upwards and purified into drinking-water.
The town’s waste water is purified in the sewage treatment plant
(RWZI) near the residential area Goedereede. Sewage treatment is managed
by the Waterschap Hollandse Delta (WHD).
|
|
After purification the water is drained into the open water. The
Waterschap Hollandse Delta also protects the South Holland Island
against flooding, manages the surface water and the (water) ways,
purifies the waste water and together with other organisations and
the town of Goedereede contributes to spatial planning of the drinking-water
area.

the environment. The municipality is aware of its responsibility in
this respect. It knows that annually many millions of people visit
its territory for a short or longer stay. As responsible authority
it takes care of a clean, hygienic environment for its inhabitants
and guests.
|
|
Central point is here that the municipality pursues a balanced, sustainable
policy. It wishes to offer a home to everybody in which the core qualities
of respect, space, quality and hygiene are central.
